US regulators have kicked off the formal review of a new spot\u2011crypto fund. Investors won\u2019t know for sure if it clears the hurdles until the US Securities and Exchange Commission makes a final call. But the filing itself signals growing acceptance of directly held crypto products.<\/p>\n

ETF Application Sparks Interest<\/h2>\n

According to the SEC filing<\/a>, Trump Media\u2019s Truth Social unit wants an ETF listed on NYSE Arca<\/a> with 75% in Bitcoin and 25% in Ether. Yorkville America Digital would sponsor the fund, while Foris DAX Trust Company\u2014Crypto.com\u2019s custody arm\u2014would hold the coins. US President Donald Trump\u2019s team submitted the S\u20111 form on June\u202f16, starting what is likely a 45\u2011day review clock.<\/p>\n

Custody And Valuation Rules<\/h2>\n

Based on reports, the fund would value Bitcoin each trading day using the CME CF Bitcoin reference rate. Ether would use the CME CF Ether rate, unless the sponsor chooses another source. Private keys for both assets would sit in a cold wallet, kept separate from customer accounts. That setup aims to address long\u2011standing worries over hacks, theft and tangled custody failures.<\/p>\n

Wall Street giants like BlackRock and Fidelity have filed pure\u2011Bitcoin ETF applications. Some firms are eyeing Ether\u2011only funds. Now a dual\u2011asset product is in the mix. If the SEC finalizes its planned \u201cautomated\u201d listing framework, reviews could shrink from many months to a few. That rule would standardize disclosures, custody standards and market\u2011integrity checks for all spot\u2011crypto ETFs.<\/a><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Fidelity\u2019s spot\u2011Solana ETF hit another delay<\/a>. The SEC pushed back its March\u202f25 application and opened a new public\u2011comment window\u201421 days for feedback, 35 days for replies. Bloomberg analyst James Seyffart called this hold\u2011up \u201cexpected,\u201d noting it shows the agency is still fine\u2011tuning data and disclosures before any approvals.<\/p>\n

Now the ball is in the SEC\u2019s court. Regulators can sign off, send back comments or reject the bid. If leadership keeps up the push for faster, automated reviews, spot\u2011crypto ETFs might reach market this year.
