A senior government official said that \u201chigh-level, credible sources\u201d believe Powell is weighing whether to leave his position. The pressure comes after criticism over the $2.5 billion renovation of the Fed\u2019s Washington headquarters.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Chairman Jerome Powell has grossly mismanaged the Fed.<\/p>\n<p>While continuing to run a deficit since FY23 (the first time in the Fed\u2019s history), the Fed is way over budget on the renovation of its headquarters.<\/p>\n<p>Now up to $2.5 billion, roughly $700 million over its initial cost.\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/lHK4cWlAvf\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\">pic.twitter.com\/lHK4cWlAvf<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Russ Vought (@russvought) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/russvought\/status\/1943362774416883908?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\">July 10, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Senator Tim Scott described the spending as resembling the \u201cPalace of Versailles.\u201d The project, revealed earlier this year, has faced backlash across political lines. Powell addressed the issue in a June Senate hearing, saying that some of the more extravagant descriptions are misleading and inaccurate.<\/p>\n<p>Donald Trump, who nominated Powell in 2017, has again called for interest rate cuts. The current Fed Funds rate is 4.25%\u20134.5%. Trump said it should be between 1.25% and 1.5%. Speaking in June, he said he had <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Ashcryptoreal\/status\/1935706631419105771\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\">called<\/a> Powell \u201cevery name in the book\u201d to try and push for lower rates.<\/p>\n<p>Peter Schiff, a prominent financial commentator, echoed the sentiment, saying that if Powell steps down, his successor could move quickly to slash rates. Schiff <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/PeterSchiff\/status\/1943853795902951615\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\">added<\/a> that such a move could \u201cput the nail in the dollar\u2019s coffin,\u201d driving long-term rates, inflation, and gold prices higher.<\/p>\n<h2>Agency Head Says Powell\u2019s Exit Would Be \u2018Right Decision\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>William Pulte, head of the Federal Housing Finance Agency and chairman of the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac boards, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/pulte\/status\/1943746831256621564\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\">released<\/a> a public statement supporting Powell\u2019s potential resignation.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m encouraged by reports that Jerome Powell is considering resigning. I think this will be the right decision for America, and the economy will boom,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>When asked for comment, the Federal Reserve referred to Powell\u2019s past statements that he intends to serve out his term, which runs through May 2026. No further comment was given.<\/p>\n<h2>Attention Turns to Fed\u2019s July Meeting<\/h2>\n<p>The next Federal Open Market Committee meeting is scheduled for July 29\u201330. Futures data from the CME FedWatch tool shows a 93% chance that rates will remain in the current range. The Fed has held rates steady since early 2024 and projects two rate cuts in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Powell has stated the Fed will assess how <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptopotato.com\/bitcoin-hits-new-ath-altcoins-rocket-trumps-latest-tariffs-your-weekly-crypto-recap\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">tariffs<\/a> and inflation evolve before adjusting policy.
