According to Ripple Chief Technology Officer David Schwartz, Bitcoin\u2019s main strength isn\u2019t in hosting complex smart contracts or in fast payments. It\u2019s in offering a secure, trust\u2011minimized settlement layer that other networks can rely on.<\/p>\n

Bitcoin\u2019s proof\u2011of\u2011work backbone has proven its staying power over more than a decade. Its security model still draws interest from developers and institutions alike.<\/p>\n

Secure Settlement Backbone<\/h2>\n

Schwartz pointed out that proof\u2011of\u2011work mining makes the top crypto uniquely resistant to attacks. It\u2019s simple in design but tough to break. Investors and institutions value that certainty.<\/p>\n

Even with block times around 10 minutes and fees that can climb during busy periods, the network\u2019s security remains unmatched. Bitcoin<\/a> may not match more programmable chains, but it has never suffered a major protocol failure.<\/p>\n

Layer\u2011Two Growth And Off\u2011Chain Use<\/h2>\n

Based on reports, most BTC transactions today don\u2019t hit the main chain directly. The Lightning Network handles micro\u2011payments. Other protocols like RSK bring smart\u2011contract features while still anchoring to BTC\u2019s security.<\/p>\n

That kind of trend shows that Bitcoin\u2019s core role can thrive even if most activity moves off\u2011chain. Bridges and sidechains have tapped into its value without clogging the base layer.<\/p>\n

Schwartz likened Bitcoin\u2019s broader reach to XRP<\/a> being used on an EVM\u2011compatible sidechain. It doesn\u2019t take place on the original ledger. Yet it still taps into the same currency utility.<\/p>\n

He suggested BTC will remain a \u201ccurrency of choice\u201d in a growing digital asset system. That status holds even if competing networks offer flashier functions. Users will always have the option to fall back on the crypto asset\u2019s proven rails.<\/p>\n


\nSecurity Versus Feature Sets<\/p>\n

The CTO noted that real\u2011world problems solved by crypto remain limited in scope. Many new blockchains boast lower fees or faster speeds. Still, none match Bitcoin\u2019s history of continuous operation.<\/p>\n

Companies and developers often choose to lock value in BTC before moving it elsewhere. That gives them peace of mind when scaling other services. It\u2019s a practical trade\u2011off between pure security and extra features.<\/p>\n

Market Milestones And Comparisons<\/p>\n

Bitcoin surged past $123,000<\/a> on Monday, pushing its market cap to about $2.4 trillion. That puts it ahead of Amazon, Apple, Microsoft and NVIDIA. Only gold ranks higher among all assets.<\/p>\n

Some analysts see that milestone as proof that BTC\u2019s rock\u2011solid base remains in demand. Others warn that price swings could still test investor nerves. But Bitcoin\u2019s top\u2011six ranking by market cap speaks for itself.<\/p>\n
