New Chapters Being Written<\/h2>\n

The news of the plan was shared<\/a> yesterday by Reuters, with the Bank of America (BOA) joining the ranks of various institutional bodies that have endorsed the stablecoin plan under President Trump\u2019s crypto-friendly legislation.<\/p>\n

Brian Moynihan, the CEO and President of BOA, noted that \u201cinvestors can expect the lender to move forward with it,<\/em>\u201d but did not disclose any information as to when this can be expected.<\/p>\n

Further speaking to analysts during a post-earnings call, the CEO\u2019s approach appears to be cautious and calculated, as they are currently exploring customer demand, which is presently low.<\/p>\n

The groundwork will likely begin \u201cat the appropriate time<\/em>\u201d and \u201cin partnership with other players,<\/em>\u201d with Moynihan comparing current stablecoin<\/a> adoption levels of the industry with those of payment platforms like Zelle and Venmo.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve done a lot of work,<\/em>\u201d said Moynihan, hinting that this may have been in development for a while now, but with \u201cbanks still awaiting legal clarity,<\/em>\u201d the progress has been slower than some investors would have liked.<\/span><\/p>\n

The wait will likely not be very long, as the trio of anticipated legislation bills\u2014CLARITY, GENIUS, and Anti-CBDC \u2014 were\u00a0advanced<\/a> to the House floor for debate and consideration<\/span>\u00a0after a 9-hour stall of the vote.<\/p>\n

After speaking with the President late on Wednesday, the House Speaker told reporters:<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m pleased that we\u2019ll be able to get this done. The president is as well. I just spoke with him, and this is a big priority for him, and it was for us.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

A Change of Heart<\/h2>\n

The widespread adoption and ongoing plans for stablecoins by central US banks are in stark contrast to how they were viewed not that long ago.<\/p>\n

For example, when the BOA\u2019s lead was asked<\/a> if they planned to incorporate cryptocurrency in their services during a past World Economic Forum, the answer was a straightforward \u201cno.\u201d<\/p>\n

Previously skeptical as well, the third-largest bank in the United States, Citigroup, is also considering<\/a> issuing its own stablecoin.<\/p>\n

Vocal bitcoin critic<\/a> \u2013 JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon, announced that the entity will also be entering the space, but without sharing any further details.<\/p>\n
