Cardano founder Charles\u202fHoskinson has received the first draft of the long\u2011promised audit into Input\u202fOutput\u202fGlobal\u2019s (IOG) ADA holdings and says the document is \u201cshaping up quickly.\u201d In a X post on 20\u202fJuly he wrote<\/a>, \u201cI just received the first copy of the audit report. I requested a lot more detail and context in several areas, but it\u2019s shaping up quickly\u2026 I believe we are on schedule for a mid\u2011August release, assuming the work continues at this pace and there are no delays.\u201d<\/p>\n

Why The Cardano Audit Is Needed<\/h2>\n

The audit is the centerpiece of Hoskinson\u2019s effort to rebut<\/a> accusations that IOG quietly commandeered roughly\u202f$600\u202fmillion worth of ADA during the 2021 Allegra hard fork. The charge\u2014first amplified in May by NFT artist Masato\u202fAlexander\u2014claims Hoskinson used a \u201cgenesis key\u201d to rewrite the ledger and move 318\u2011350\u202fmillion unclaimed tokens into company\u2011controlled wallets.<\/p>\n

Hoskinson has repeatedly rejected the story as a \u201clie,\u201d<\/a> insisting most of the disputed coins had already been claimed by their original buyers and that the remainder \u201cwas donated to Intersect\u201d after a seven\u2011year dormancy period. \u201cNo matter how many times people lie, they cannot change reality,\u201d he wrote on 6\u202fMay.<\/p>\n

The episode escalated after social\u2011media headlines in late May suggested a $600\u202fmillion \u201ctheft.\u201d \u201cI\u2019m absolutely disgusted\u2026 The headlines I\u2019ve seen are beyond damaging; they will require months if not years of work and millions of dollars to undo post\u2011audit,\u201d Hoskinson posted on 20\u202fMay, pledging to pay for an independent review<\/a> and to publish it in full.<\/p>\n

IOG\u2019s chief legal and policy officer Joel\u202fTelpner confirmed<\/a> progress on the investigation in a parallel X update: \u201cWe are making good progress on the investigative and audit report that we promised to deliver. The law firm and audit firm are close to completing their work and we are hoping the report will be ready to release by the middle of August. I\u2019ll continue to keep you updated.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hoskinson also signaled a legal counter\u2011offensive, telling followers he will meet \u201cwith the defamation law firm next week to discuss options and strategy,\u201d a move he says is aimed at recovering what he characterizes as \u201chundreds of millions of dollars of brand damage\u201d to Cardano.<\/p>\n

The forthcoming report will be aired live: Hoskinson intends to read the entire document in a livestream and to host the PDF\u2014along with \u201cother historical artifacts from the sale\u201d\u2014on a dedicated website.<\/p>\n

Market reaction has been restrained so far. ADA changed hands at roughly\u202f$0.84 when the latest update hit social media\u2014flat on the day but still up 17\u202fpercent on the week.<\/p>\n
