{"id":38190,"date":"2025-07-22T17:16:57","date_gmt":"2025-07-22T17:16:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=38190"},"modified":"2025-07-22T17:16:57","modified_gmt":"2025-07-22T17:16:57","slug":"citadel-securities-warns-sec-against-rushed-tokenized-securities-rollout","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=38190","title":{"rendered":"Citadel Securities Warns SEC Against Rushed Tokenized Securities Rollout"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Citadel Securities is pressing U.S. regulators to slow down on new rules that would enable widespread trading of tokenized securities, citing concerns about market disruption and investor confusion.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>In a letter to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission\u2019s Crypto Task Force, the market-making firm argued that allowing these blockchain-based products to advance without a clear regulatory framework could create unfair advantages for cryptocurrency platforms and drain liquidity from traditional equity markets, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-07-21\/citadel-securities-asks-sec-to-tread-cautiously-on-tokenization?srnd=phx-crypto&amp;sref=3REHEaVI\">reported Bloomberg<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Tokenizing securities brings traditional assets onto the blockchain, and this year tokenized stocks have been taking off, with offerings from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/business\/2025\/06\/30\/backed-finance-debuts-tokenized-stocks-on-bybit-kraken-and-solana-defi-protocols\">Backed Finance<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/business\/2025\/06\/27\/gemini-rolls-out-tokenized-stocks-in-eu-starting-with-strategy-shares\">Gemini<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/business\/2025\/06\/30\/robinhood-pushes-deeper-into-crypto-with-own-blockchain-tokenized-stock-launch\">Robinhood<\/a>, among others.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Supporters point out that tokenized securities can not only be traded round-the-clock, fractionalized, and provide faster settlements, they can also be used within the decentralized finance (DeFi) space. Citadel, however, isn\u2019t convinced the benefits outweigh the risks.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>\u201cTokenized securities must achieve success by delivering real innovation and efficiency to market participants, rather than through self-serving regulatory arbitrage,\u201d the firm wrote in its letter.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>The comments come as SEC Chairman Paul Atkins signals <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/07\/02\/first-on-cnbc-transcript-sec-chair-paul-atkins-speaks-with-cnbcs-squawk-box-today.html\">openness<\/a> to updating securities laws to support financial innovation, including tokenization.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Citadel urged any move in that direction to go through a formal rulemaking process, not piecemeal exceptions or guidance.
