The coin was meant to be <span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">satirical, mocking\u00a0<strong>Bitcoin\u00a0<\/strong>(CRYPTO: <a class=\"ticker\" href=\"https:\/\/www.benzinga.com\/quote\/btc\/usd\">BTC<\/a>), but over time, it<\/span> has gained support from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.benzinga.com\/markets\/cryptocurrency\/21\/12\/24814327\/2021-was-the-year-of-dogecoin-a-month-by-month-retrospective-with-top-stories\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a loyal community<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Palmer bought dogecoin.com and connected with Markus, who had previous experience with altcoins, including making a coin based on the Bells currency in the Animal Crossing video game. The duo created the coin in just a couple hours, with Markus previously saying much of the time on development was spent changing the font of the coin to Comic Sans.<\/p>\n<p>The cryptocurrency was based on the iconic Doge meme that stars\u00a0<strong>Kabosu<\/strong>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.benzinga.com\/markets\/cryptocurrency\/24\/05\/39002274\/kabosu-famous-shiba-inu-dog-who-inspired-creation-of-dogecoin-and-other-dog-cryptos-dies-a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a Shiba Inu dog.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A profile for Dogecoin was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gfinityesports.com\/cryptocurrency\/-when-did-dogecoin-start-trading-what-price-did-dogecoin-start-at-when-did-dogecoin-become-popular\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">created\u00a0<\/a>on Bitcointalk.org on Dec. 6, 2013.
