(NASDAQ:<a class=\"ticker\" href=\"https:\/\/www.benzinga.com\/stock\/COIN#NASDAQ\">COIN<\/a>)\u00a0CEO <strong>Brian Armstrong <\/strong>said Thursday that the company views <strong>Visa Inc.<\/strong> (NYSE:<a class=\"ticker\" href=\"https:\/\/www.benzinga.com\/stock\/V#NYSE\">V<\/a>) and <strong>Mastercard Inc.<\/strong> (NYSE:<a class=\"ticker\" href=\"https:\/\/www.benzinga.com\/stock\/MA#NYSE\">MA<\/a>) as partners in the growing cryptocurrency-powered payments industry, rather than competitors.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What Happened<\/strong>: During Coinbase\u2019s second-quarter earnings call, Armstrong was asked if the company is planning to build an \u201calternative network\u201d to the fintech behemoths, to which he replied, \u201cNot really.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe actually partner with them in many ways on the cards that we put out there,\u201d the CEO added. <\/p>\n<p>Armstrong stated that Visa and Mastercard are \u201cvery involved\u201d in stablecoins and cryptocurrencies, building projects, some in collaboration with Coinbase and others independently.
