{"id":39907,"date":"2025-08-01T07:01:41","date_gmt":"2025-08-01T07:01:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=39907"},"modified":"2025-08-01T07:01:41","modified_gmt":"2025-08-01T07:01:41","slug":"coindcx-employee-arrested-over-links-to-44-million-crypto-heist-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=39907","title":{"rendered":"CoinDCX Employee Arrested Over Links To $44 Million Crypto Heist \u2013 Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a new development, Indian authorities have arrested one of CoinDCX\u2019s employees for his alleged connection to the recent security breach that resulted in the massive crypto theft.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Crypto Investigation Leads To Arrest<\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On Thursday, local reports <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/city\/bengaluru\/bengaluru-techie-arrested-in-rs-379-crore-coindcx-crypto-theft-how-hacker-used-his-login-to-siphon-funds-got-call-from-germany\/articleshow\/123008462.cms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">revealed<\/a> that Bengaluru City police had arrested Rahul Agarwal, a software engineer working at CoinDCX, on Saturday for his involvement in the recent crypto hack.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The arrest follows a July 22 complaint filed by CoinDCX\u2019s parent company, Neblio Technologies, after finding that hackers compromised Agarwal\u2019s login credentials. The software engineer had reportedly been working with the crypto exchange over the past three years and had a \u201cwell-paying role\u201d at the company.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to The Times of India, Hardeep Singh, Vice President for Public Policy at Neblio, explained that Agarwal became a subject of interest when the company\u2019s internal investigation revealed that the security credentials on his work laptop had been <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinist.com\/2025-record-breaking-year-for-crypto-theft\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener \">compromised<\/a>, allowing the hackers to syphon millions of dollars.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinist.com\/crypto-exchange-coindcx-falls-to-44-million-hack\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener \">reported<\/a> by Bitcoinist, the Indian crypto exchange suffered a security breach on July 19, which resulted in the transfer of $44 million in USDT from one of the platform\u2019s wallets to six unknown personal wallets.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CoinDCX CEO Sumit Gupta affirmed that user funds were safe, detailing that the affected wallet was one of the exchange\u2019s internal operational accounts and was only used for liquidity supply on a partner exchange.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A \u2018Sophisticated\u2019 Attack?<\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a Thursday X post, the CEO shared that \u201cBased on our internal preliminary findings, this appears to be a sophisticated social engineering attack,\u201d but that they \u201cunfortunately cannot engage with the media or public on this issue,\u201d as it is an open investigation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-544919 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/bitcoinist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Captura-de-Pantalla-2025-07-31-a-las-11.56.52-a.-m.png?w=605&amp;resize=605%2C206\" alt=\"crypto\" width=\"605\" height=\"206\"><\/p>\n<p>Nonetheless, he reassured users that \u201cthe integrity of the process is maintained\u201d and the crypto <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinist.com\/coindcx-not-for-sale-ceo-shuts-down-coinbase\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener \">exchange<\/a> is fully cooperating with the authorities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to Deccan Herald, senior police officers reportedly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deccanherald.com\/india\/karnataka\/bengaluru\/employee-arrested-in-bengaluru-after-crypto-exchange-loses-44-million-in-major-hack-3656871\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">stated<\/a> that the hackers targeted Agarwal and lured him into a fake job task. \u201cThe suspect first used his personal laptop computer to take part in the task scheme. He later switched to his office laptop computer following insistence from the perpetrators,\u201d a senior police officer told the news media outlet.<\/p>\n<p>When questioned, Agarwal allegedly confessed that he used the office laptop for his part-time job, which was against the crypto exchange\u2019s policy, and had earned around $17,135 over the past year, but claimed not to be aware of the scam.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the police, the software engineer received WhatsApp calls from a German number related to files that had been sent to him for completion, which he argued \u201ccould have been a bait\u201d used by the hacker to access the exchange\u2019s system.<\/p>\n<p>So far, authorities consider that \u201cthe probe has revealed that the employee was unaware and was a mere tool used by the perpetrators to gain access to the company servers. However, he was arrested and sent to judicial custody.
