{"id":41135,"date":"2025-08-08T09:46:49","date_gmt":"2025-08-08T09:46:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=41135"},"modified":"2025-08-08T09:46:49","modified_gmt":"2025-08-08T09:46:49","slug":"animoca-brands-and-standard-chartered-establish-stablecoin-issuer-in-hong-kong","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=41135","title":{"rendered":"Animoca Brands and Standard Chartered Establish Stablecoin Issuer in Hong Kong"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Major Web3 investor Animoca Brands has formed a stablecoin joint venture (JV) with the Hong Kong division of multinational bank Standard Chartered (2888).<\/p>\n<p>The JV, known as Anchorpoint, also includes Hong Kong Telecom (HKT) and aims to build a business model for the issuance of licensed stablecoins, according to an emailed announcement on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Anchorpoint has expressed its interest in applying for a stablecoin issuer license in Hong Kong coinciding with the special administrative region&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/policy\/2025\/07\/23\/the-market-has-become-overly-excited-for-stablecoins-hong-kong-financial-regulator-says\">much-anticipated regulatory regime<\/a> coming into effect <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/policy\/2025\/08\/01\/hong-kong-s-stablecoin-rules-kick-in-as-it-looks-to-establish-its-crypto-credentials\">at the start of this month<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>The three entities have been jointly participating in the Hong Kong Monetary Authority&#8217;s (HKMA) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/policy\/2024\/07\/18\/standard-chartered-animoca-and-three-others-join-hkmas-stablecoin-sandbox-as-participants\">stablecoin sandbox<\/a> for over a year in preparation for the regulation.<\/p>\n<p>Around <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/policy\/2025\/07\/08\/over-40-firms-prepping-for-hong-kong-stablecoin-license-applications-report\">40 companies are expected to apply for licensing<\/a> under Hong Kong&#8217;s Stablecoin Ordinance, though HKMA CEO Eddie Yue said the regulator was likely to approve fewer than 10.<\/p>\n<p>Stablecoins are crypto tokens <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/learn\/what-is-a-stablecoin\">pegged to the value of a traditional financial asset<\/a>, such as a fiat currency, usually the U.S. dollar.
