{"id":41717,"date":"2025-08-12T12:31:55","date_gmt":"2025-08-12T12:31:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=41717"},"modified":"2025-08-12T12:31:55","modified_gmt":"2025-08-12T12:31:55","slug":"circle-unveils-layer-1-blockchain-arc-reports-428-million-q2-loss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=41717","title":{"rendered":"Circle Unveils Layer-1 Blockchain Arc, Reports $428 Million Q2 Loss"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Circle (CRCL) reported a second-quarter net loss even as circulation of the second-largest stablecoin, USDC, almost doubled from the year-earlier period and on-chain transaction volume more than quintupled to $5.9 trillion.<\/p>\n<p>The company also said it is developing a layer-1 blockchain \u201cdesigned to provide an enterprise-grade foundation for stablecoin payments, FX, and capital markets applications.\u201d  A public testnet for the Arc blockchain is scheduled to live in the next few months.<\/p>\n<p>Arc is Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-compatible and uses USDC as its native gas token, has an integrated stablecoin FX engine, and sub-second settlement finality along with \u201copt-in privacy controls,\u201d the company said.<\/p>\n<p>Circle\u2019s is not the first stablecoin-focused blockchain on the blocks. Others include\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/business\/2025\/07\/28\/stablecoin-focused-bitcoin-sidechain-plasma-draws-usd373m-in-oversubscribed-token-sale\">Plasma<\/a>, which drew over $373 million in an oversubscribed token sale, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/business\/2025\/07\/31\/tether-focused-blockchain-stable-raises-usd28m-to-power-stablecoin-payments\">Stable<\/a>, focused on USDC&#8217;s larger rival, Tether&#8217;s USDT. Payments company Stripe is reportedly also building its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/business\/2025\/08\/12\/stripe-building-payments-blockchain-tempo-with-paradigm-fortune\">own stablecoin-focused chain, <\/a>called Tempo.<\/p>\n<p>In its first quarter as a publicly traded company, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businesswire.com\/news\/home\/20250812836620\/en\/Circle-Reports-Second-Quarter-2025-Results\">Circle said<\/a> USDC\u2019s share of the stablecoin market rose to 28%. Total revenue and reserve income increased 53% to $658 million, driven by higher average USDC balances. The company posted a net loss of $482 million, largely due items related to the June IPO. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (Ebidta) rose 52% to $126 million, the company said.<\/p>\n<p>Interest in the $270 billion stablecoin sector has been accelerating after President Donald Trump signed the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/policy\/2025\/07\/18\/trump-is-to-sign-the-historic-genius-act-into-law-what-does-it-mean-for-crypto\">GENIUS Act into law.<\/a> The act bolstered the industry by creating a federal regulatory framework for payment stablecoins in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>Shares of Circle rose 6.35% to $171.41 in pre-market trading.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Circle (CRCL) reported a second-quarter net loss even as circulation of the second-largest stablecoin, USDC, almost doubled from the year-earlier period and on-chain transaction volume more than quintupled to $5.9 trillion.
