Day 2 of the Wyoming Blockchain Symposium produced its most arresting soundbite yet when Eric Trump suggested a sovereign had quietly accumulated a nine-figure trove of Bitcoin. \u201cLet me give you the sovereign wealth\u2026they are all buying bitcoin right now, in massive ways,\u201d he said<\/a> from the main stage.<\/p>\n

Did A Nation Buy 200,000 Bitcoin Secretly?<\/h2>\n

He added: \u201cOr, you know, our country just bought 200,000 Bitcoin and we did so very quietly. We don\u2019t want anybody to know about it, but that\u2019s how much we believe in the asset.\u201d Trump offered no name, timeline or documentation, and framed the remark as an anecdote from conversations with global leaders. The figure \u2014 200,000 BTC, roughly $22 billion at recent prices \u2014 instantly ricocheted across social platforms and crypto trading chats.<\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s broader narrative fused a personal conversion story with a muscular forecast for the asset. \u201cGuys, I am a hard-asset guy\u2026I always joked [to Michael Saylor<\/a>] if I can\u2019t feel it, if I can\u2019t touch it, if I can\u2019t see it, it kind of wasn\u2019t for me,\u201d he said, recounting how a wave of debankings against his family\u2019s businesses and crypto operators pushed him into the industry.<\/p>\n

\u201cI probably spend over 50% of my time in crypto,\u201d he added, calling the current backdrop \u201cthe best [regulatory environment] it\u2019s ever been\u201d and declaring that BTC is \u201con the one-yard line,\u201d with growth over the next six months \u201cexplosive\u201d and the next decade \u201camazing.\u201d While calling himself a \u201cBitcoin maxi,\u201d he reiterated his price targets: \u201cThere is no doubt about Bitcoin reaching $1 million,\u201d adding that \u201cit is expected to reach $175,000 by the end of this year.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pressed on geopolitics, he described a \u201cdigital land grab\u201d by sovereign wealth funds and corporates moving to add BTC to treasury reserves. \u201cIn ways that you can\u2019t even imagine,\u201d he said, before recounting a Greenwich private-banker friend who once derided BTC as \u201cfunny money\u201d but later called asking how to buy \u2014 at triple the price.<\/p>\n

Trump argued that the convergence of debanking risk, inflation stress in emerging markets and the frictions of the legacy payments system is accelerating institutional and retail adoption: \u201cWe could pop up a wallet and I could transfer $100 million of Bitcoin\u2026in two seconds,\u201d he said, contrasting it with a year-long commercial real-estate sale process.<\/p>\n

The \u201c200,000 BTC\u201d number is especially charged because it echoes \u2014 but is not the same as \u2014 estimates of government-controlled wallets<\/a> already in public view. It is estimated that the US government\u2019s seized holdings have hovered around that magnitude and have been discussed in the context of the administration\u2019s strategic bitcoin reserve framework.<\/p>\n

American Bitcoin In The Focus<\/h2>\n

The panel also focused on an inside look at American Bitcoin, the Trump-backed mining-plus-treasury vehicle being carved out with Hut 8. Hut 8 CEO Asher Genoot laid out the operating math: last quarter, he said, energy cost to mine a bitcoin averaged about $37,000, with all-in cost near $57,000, positioning the operation at a steep discount to spot purchases.<\/p>\n

Hut 8 currently manages around a gigawatt of capacity with additional sites under exclusivity and a multi-gigawatt pipeline, he added, arguing that vertical integration lets American Bitcoin \u201cbe this pure-play mining business that gets vertically integrated economics without the overhang of a large fixed management team.\u201d He emphasized discipline over scale for scale\u2019s sake, likening capital allocation to oil and gas: if new rigs (ASICs) don\u2019t beat simply buying BTC over the machine\u2019s life, they don\u2019t buy.<\/p>\n

American Bitcoin\u2019s go-public plans were another throughline. Hut 8 has already disclosed that its majority-owned subsidiary intends to list on Nasdaq under the ticker ABTC via a merger with Gryphon Digital Mining<\/a>, with shareholder votes slated for late August and closing targeted for early September, subject to approvals. The company\u2019s filings and subsequent coverage frame the vehicle as a \u201cpremier bitcoin accumulation platform,\u201d with Hut 8 retaining a controlling stake. Recent investor materials have also highlighted that American Bitcoin purchased 1,726 BTC in Q2 as it ramps its treasury strategy.<\/p>\n
