{"id":43549,"date":"2025-08-22T10:46:42","date_gmt":"2025-08-22T10:46:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=43549"},"modified":"2025-08-22T10:46:42","modified_gmt":"2025-08-22T10:46:42","slug":"south-koreas-top-banks-said-to-meet-tether-circle-on-stablecoin-partnerships-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=43549","title":{"rendered":"South Korea\u2019s Top Banks Said to Meet Tether, Circle on Stablecoin Partnerships: Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>South Korea\u2019s largest financial groups are set to meet officials from Tether and Circle Internet (CRCL), issuers of the two largest stablecoins, as early as this week, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.yna.co.kr\/view\/AEN20250821006400320\">according to Yonhap<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In separate meetings, executives from Shinhan, Hana, KB Financial and Woori Bank will discuss potential partnerships on distributing and transacting with dollar-pegged stablecoins in the country, as well as explore the issuance of a stablecoin pegged to the won.<\/p>\n<p>The moves come as President Lee Jae Myung\u2019s pro-crypto administration pushes to establish a market for stablecoins, digital tokens whose value is pegged to a conventional asset, tied to the won, a key pledge from his election campaign. The Bank of Korea <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/policy\/2025\/06\/30\/bank-of-korea-halts-cbdc-project-as-government-submits-stablecoin-bill-report\">shelved plans<\/a> to issue a central bank digital currency (CBDC) in June following Lee&#8217;s election earlier in the month. Upbit, one of the country&#8217;s largest crypto exchanges, has already said it&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/business\/2025\/07\/01\/south-korean-exchange-upbit-to-work-on-won-stablecoin-with-naver-pay-report\">working with Naver Pay<\/a> on a stablecoin.<\/p>\n<p>Shinhan CEO Jin Ok-dong and Hana CEO Ham Young-joo are scheduled to meet Circle President Heath Tarbert on Friday, and Ham is also expected to sit down with a Tether official later the same day.
