Charles Hoskinson used his latest AMA to unleash his most forceful critique yet of the Cardano Foundation (CF), defending the decision to exclude the CF from claiming Midnight\u2019s NIGHT tokens while outlining aggressive multi-chain partnerships, airdrop mechanics he says could be among the largest ever, and a near-term push around Token2049 and an Asia tour.<\/p>\n

At the center was the Midnight redemption<\/a> controversy. Asked \u201cto address the decision to limit the CF from claiming NIGHT tokens,\u201d Hoskinson framed the move as a necessary risk control rooted in the airdrop\u2019s terms. \u201cWe built it. It\u2019s my money. We can do whatever the hell we want to do,\u201d he said<\/a>, adding that the distribution included a disclaimer about \u201cundue burden and harm to the network.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hoskinson Torches Cardano Foundation<\/h2>\n

He asserted ownership of the CF\u2019s ADA is \u201cnot clear,\u201d claiming \u201cthe Swiss government<\/a> stole the ADA,\u201d and warned that letting the CF redeem would introduce an adversarial governance bloc: \u201cThey\u2019d come in and instantly be adversarial [\u2026] and assert that they have some sort of governance control. Let somebody else have that NIGHT who\u2019s going to do something more with it.\u201d<\/p>\n

He escalated further later in the stream: \u201cAt what point does the community tell the CF to f*** off [\u2026] the free [stuff] they already squandered?\u201d and, when pressed on why to blacklist the Foundation\u2019s addresses, replied, \u201cWhy invite a bad actor [\u2026] into an ecosystem?\u201d<\/p>\n

He added to his rant: \u201cI\u2019m out there alone and it\u2019s expensive, guys. Some of these deals with the big guys, they\u2019ve become eight figure deals. [\u2026] It\u2019s frustrating because all of our competitors have foundations that in some cases have endowments that are in the billions to tens of billions of dollars and they\u2019re hungry and aggressive, and they\u2019re doing stuff and they\u2019re investing in stuff and they\u2019re really pushing things forward.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hoskinson also insisted that the Midnight rollout materially benefits Cardano rather than siphoning attention from it, pointing to custody and exchange integrations set up to list both Midnight and Cardano-native assets. \u201cWe just announced today the Copper partnership[\u2026] any exchange that uses Copper as a custodian [\u2026] can now support that asset. And [\u2026] they didn\u2019t just agree to support Midnight. They agreed to support Cardano and Cardano native tokens,\u201d he said, grouping Copper with relationships involving Bitcoin.com, Blockchain.com and Brave.<\/p>\n

Hoskinson also said IOHK is working with Chainlink<\/a> on a first-ever UTXO deployment: \u201cWe sat down with Sergey [Nazarov] [\u2026] They\u2019re skeptical about the engineering cost [\u2026] [but] \u2018I think we can figure it out.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

The CF critique broadened into a sweeping governance and resourcing indictment. Hoskinson alleged the Foundation \u201cis just not deploying capital in meaningful ways,\u201d noting its absence from recent conferences: \u201cWhen I was at Salt [\u2026] who wasn\u2019t there? The CF. When we were at Rare Evo [\u2026] there was no CF booth.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Midnight Foundation Is Different<\/h2>\n

By contrast, he cast the Midnight Foundation as aggressively commercial\u2014110 deals in the pipeline and \u201chungry\u201d account management across ecosystems\u2014and pointed to Intersect, Cardano\u2019s members-based body, as the organ that now embodies his original foundation vision: \u201cYou already got a members-based organization [\u2026] It took two years to build it [\u2026] Now just add like $600 million [\u2026] and give them four extra years.\u201d<\/p>\n

He drew a direct line from CF governance to reputational damage: \u201cMembers of the organization are low-key soft accusing us of stealing money [\u2026] Were there any apologies? Was there any attempt for reconciliation?\u201d<\/p>\n

The animus with the CF bled into an evidentiary promise. Hoskinson said the audit report<\/a> is in the final stages\u2014\u201cwe\u2019re so close to the release\u201d\u2014intended to \u201cclose out a 10-year history lesson from 2015 to 2025,\u201d including \u201cthe original contracts with IO [\u2026] how much funds were raised [\u2026] the sale [\u2026] ADA vouching,\u201d and audits tied to the Cardano Foundation.<\/p>\n

Hoskinson framed it as \u201ccomplete exoneration on our part,\u201d and \u201cvery damning\u201d for the CF\u2019s \u201crecusal [\u2026] of their responsibilities,\u201d arguing that the Foundation\u2019s decision to distance itself from Cardano\u2019s origin story \u201ccreated a lot of problems.\u201d The purpose, he said, is \u201csunlight\u201d: \u201cYou push it all out there [\u2026] and I think those conclusions will be very positive and favorable to Input Output.\u201d<\/p>\n
