Will Japan join BRICS? The BRICS bloc \u2014 Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, and six other members \u2014 has often struggled with internal cohesion.<\/p>\n

But BRICS is now more united<\/a> than ever. And according to recent reports, they\u2019re eyeing stealing Japan from the G7 economic bloc.<\/p>\n

Why\u2019s it happening? Two words: Trump\u2019s tariffs<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The trade war started when Donald Trump stepped back into the Oval Office. Tariffs hit Japanese cars first, like Honda, Toyota, and Nissan, industries that are built into Japan\u2019s national identity.<\/p>\n

Nearly a third of those exports went to the United States, and overnight that pipeline was throttled.<\/p>\n

Then came electronics, semi-conductors<\/a>, agriculture, and even seafood. Trump went online to defend it: \u201cAmerica must come first. Even allies can\u2019t take advantage of our generosity.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

In Tokyo, the line landed like a betrayal. Members of parliament were reportedly asking one another, \u201cIf even Japan isn\u2019t considered an ally, then what is left?\u201d<\/p>\n

While Japan reeled, Beijing and Moscow moved in. Chinese delegations began arriving with offers of tech partnerships<\/a>, joint energy projects, and payment systems that sidestepped the dollar.<\/p>\n

By April, Bloomberg reported<\/a> on a private meeting in Shanghai in which Japanese, Chinese, and Russian officials explored what full BRICS membership might entail.<\/p>\n

The kicker is that Japan is already trading a lot more<\/a> with BRICS members:<\/p>\n
