US President Donald Trump\u2019s son, Eric Trump, has shared some insight into his shift to the crypto industry, the problems with the traditional financial system, and how it was \u201cweaponized\u201d against the Trump family businesses.<\/p>\n

Trump Family Pushed Into Crypto<\/h2>\n

In a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, Eric Trump detailed<\/a> how financial institutions \u201cmade him\u201d embrace the crypto industry, explaining that after the January 6, 2021, riot at the US Capitol, several banks cut the Trump family off.<\/p>\n

Trump shared that hundreds of accounts for the family\u2019s business were shut down without an explicit reason, leaving the Trump Organization \u201cdebanked\u201d and \u201cscattering millions across accounts at regional banks before eventually migrating to a new bank,\u201d which he did not name.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt that time, I realized how fragile the financial system was and how easily it could be weaponized against you,\u201d he affirmed, arguing that the decisions<\/a> were likely political, leading him to turn to the crypto industry.<\/p>\n

According to the interview, Eric Trump, executive vice president at the Trump Organization, began warming up to the industry during his father\u2019s second presidential campaign, as he became aware of the struggles of crypto companies with banking services.<\/p>\n

Previously, he told<\/a> CNBC that being \u201cthe most canceled company, probably on Earth,\u201d is what drove the Trump family towards crypto, explaining that his entry into the industry wasn\u2019t a financial bet but \u201ca form of resistance.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis whole system was weaponized against them, no different than it had been weaponized against us for different reasons,\u201d Trump told the Wall Street Journal, noting that both conservatives and crypto firms have alleged that banks have denied them services for political or religious reasons.<\/p>\n

The Trump administration has made stopping the crackdown on the sector a top priority. Crypto industry leaders have accused the previous administration of using financial exclusion as a weapon against numerous companies and founders, in what many have named \u201cOperation Chokepoint 2.0.\u201d<\/p>\n

In December, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Commissioner Hester Peirce urged<\/a> the regulatory agency to \u201cstop the chokepoint aspect of government regulation.\u201d Since then, the Commission dropped its \u201cregulation by enforcement\u201d approach, launched its Crypto Task Force, and recently unveiled the \u201cProject Crypto\u201d initiative to modernize securities rules and regulations.<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, President Trump addressed this issue, signing<\/a> an executive order that requires banks to ensure they do not refuse financial services based on political or religious beliefs and directs regulators to review all institutions for any discriminatory practices.<\/p>\n

A Gateway To Financial Freedom<\/h2>\n

Eric Trump also addresses the conflicts of interest allegations, asserting that there\u2019s a separation between the family\u2019s crypto businesses and President Trump\u2019s official businesses. \u201cI literally have nothing to do with Washington, D.C.,\u201d he affirmed.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s worth noting that multiple US lawmakers have argued<\/a> that the Trump family\u2019s crypto ventures, including World Liberty Financial\u2019s (WLFI) USD1 stablecoin and the official TRUMP memecoin, enable corruption and represent a threat to America\u2019s financial system.<\/p>\n

Nonetheless, Trump said in the interview that memecoins serve as a \u201cpowerful gateway\u201d for newcomers, arguing that \u201cIf somebody wants to go in and they want to buy $TRUMP, congratulations, now you have access to Bitcoin, you have access to Ethereum, you have access to USD1, you have access to the United States dollar.\u201d<\/p>\n

He closed the interview discussing the benefits<\/a> of tokenizing real-world assets (RWA). \u201cWhy is it that if I wanted to refinance Trump Tower, I couldn\u2019t tokenize this asset and put it on the street for billions of people around the world to otherwise invest in it. They love New York. They love Fifth Avenue. They love Trump,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n
