A second anonymous source confirmed the information, explaining that it was \u201cadvised\u201d to the lawmakers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meanwhile, Ng stated that he withdrew from the event due to \u201cfamily issues\u201d that overlap with Bitcoin Asia 2025\u2019s agenda, while the SFC affirmed that Yip would not be in attendance due to a business trip.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lau Siu-kai, a consultant to the Chinese Association of Hong Kong and Macau Studies, told the news media outlet that the reason was to \u201cavoid any public impression that Hong Kong was cooperating with or flattering Donald Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cUnder the intense China-US relations, it is only natural to avoid any impression that Hong Kong is doing something that is helping or pleasing the US,\u201d Lau detailed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s worth noting that President Trump recently announced a 90-day trade tariff war truce with China, but has threatened that the nation could face \u201c200 per cent tariffs, or something,\u201d if it doesn\u2019t continue to ensure shipments of permanent magnets containing certain minerals reach the US.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hong Kong Crypto Landscape<\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A source close to the city\u2019s regulators reportedly said that officials had been advised to \u201cmaintain a low profile on cryptocurrency and stablecoins,\u201d the report affirmed, but noted that Clarence Shen, an SFC manager responsible for fintech policy formulation, will still attend as one of the event\u2019s speakers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Notably, Hong Kong has been working to establish itself as one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinist.com\/crypto-wealthy-asian-investors-digital-assets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener \">leading<\/a> crypto hubs worldwide, advancing crucial legislation to regulate the sector. Amid the global push for stablecoins, Hong Kong\u2019s Legislative Council passed the Stablecoin Ordinance in May, which was enacted on August 1.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In June, <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinist.com\/hong-kong-to-issue-stablecoin-licenses-in-coming-months-says-financial-secretary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener \">regulators<\/a> also released the \u201cPolicy Statement 2.0 on the Development of Digital Assets in Hong Kong,\u201d outlining their plans to enhance the industry.
