{"id":48139,"date":"2025-09-17T22:01:53","date_gmt":"2025-09-17T22:01:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=48139"},"modified":"2025-09-17T22:01:53","modified_gmt":"2025-09-17T22:01:53","slug":"google-becomes-latest-in-agentic-ai-stablecoin-payments-race","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=48139","title":{"rendered":"Google Becomes Latest in Agentic AI Stablecoin Payments Race\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>On Tuesday, Google announced the Agent Payments Protocol (AP2), which it described as an \u201copen protocol developed with leading payments and technology companies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The protocol is designed to enable AI agents to send and receive payments to each other, supporting different payment types such as credit and debit cards, stablecoins, and real-time bank transfers.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re collaborating with a diverse group of more than 60 organizations to help shape the future of agentic payments,\u201d Google executives <a href=\"https:\/\/cloud.google.com\/blog\/products\/ai-machine-learning\/announcing-agents-to-payments-ap2-protocol\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Some of those partners are big names in crypto, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptopotato.com\/coinbase-unpacks-irs-2026-rulebook-the-truth-about-wallets-exchanges-and-taxable-events-exclusive-interview\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">Coinbase<\/a> and the Ethereum Foundation, while others are global payments platforms such as American Express, Mastercard, PayPal, Revolut, and UnionPay.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">x402 + <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Google?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\">@Google<\/a> just unlocked a new level for AI agents.<\/p>\n<p>Agents can actually pay each other now, with x402 powering the stablecoin rail inside Google\u2019s new Agentic Payments Protocol (AP2). async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h2>Autonomous AI Payments<\/h2>\n<p>Coinbase has been developing its own AI and crypto payment solutions, specifically including support for dollar-pegged stablecoins.\u00a0Google\u2019s protocol builds on the firm\u2019s Agent2Agent framework from April 2025, anticipating a future where AI agents communicate and transact directly without human intervention.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe way we built it is from the ground up to factor in both heritage and existing payment rail capabilities as well as forthcoming capabilities such as stablecoins,\u201d head of Web3 at Google Cloud, James Tromans, <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/crypto\/2025\/09\/16\/google-ai-payments-protocol-stablecoins-coinbase-salesforece-ethereum-foundation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">told<\/a> Fortune.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>AP2 is designed as a universal protocol, \u201cproviding security and trust for a variety of payments like stablecoins and cryptocurrencies,\u201d the firm stated.\u00a0It aims to accelerate support for the Web3 ecosystem through a production-ready solution for agent-based crypto payments.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cExtensions like these will help shape the evolution of cryptocurrency integrations within the core AP2 protocol.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The system builds trust by using \u201cMandates,\u201d which are tamper-proof, cryptographically-signed smart contracts that serve as verifiable proof of a user\u2019s instructions.<\/p>\n<p>These Mandates address the two primary ways a user will shop with an agent: real-time purchases with the human present, and delegated tasks which the agent will handle.<\/p>\n<h2>The Future of Shopping<\/h2>\n<p>AP2 also enables sophisticated autonomous commerce such as \u201csmart shopping,\u201d where AI agents monitor availability and execute purchases when conditions are met.<\/p>\n<p>It can also seek out personalized offers with agents contacting merchants with specific details and time frames for the item wanted.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptopotato.com\/1-39-billion-floods-into-ai-agents-as-investors-race-to-keep-up-dappradar\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">AI agents<\/a> can also carry out coordinated tasks such as booking flights and hotels with multi-vendor transactions simultaneously.<\/p>\n<p>This week, the Ethereum Foundation also <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptopotato.com\/ethereum-foundation-starts-new-ai-team-to-foster-agentic-payments\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">announced<\/a> the formation of a new team to work on agentic AI
