{"id":48585,"date":"2025-09-20T10:16:39","date_gmt":"2025-09-20T10:16:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=48585"},"modified":"2025-09-20T10:16:39","modified_gmt":"2025-09-20T10:16:39","slug":"white-house-explores-new-pro-crypto-cftc-candidates-amid-quintenzs-confirmation-delay-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=48585","title":{"rendered":"White House Explores New Pro-Crypto CFTC Candidates Amid Quintenz\u2019s Confirmation Delay \u2013 Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The White House is reportedly exploring new pro-crypto candidates to lead the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) as the confirmation of President Donald Trump\u2019s initial pick, Brian Quintenz, has stalled.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-weight: 400;\">White House Eyes More Crypto-Friendly Candidates<\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On Thursday, Bloomberg <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-09-18\/white-house-weighs-more-candidates-for-cftc-as-nominee-stalls\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">reported<\/a> that the Trump administration is allegedly weighing additional candidates to chair the CFTC following the delay in Brian Quintenz\u2019s confirmation process, according to people familiar with the matter.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although the White House has not announced that it\u2019s shifting away from Trump\u2019s original chairman pick, a new list of potential picks has emerged over the past few weeks, the report revealed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Among the CFTC chair contenders, the White House is considering Michael Selig, chief counsel to the Securities and Exchange Commission\u2019s (SEC) Crypto Task Force, and Tyler Williams, counselor to Treasury Secretary\u00a0Scott Bessent\u00a0on digital asset policy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Notably, the highly anticipated market structure is expected to shift most of the crypto market supervision to the CFTC, increasing the regulator\u2019s responsibilities. However, the agency, which is intended to be a five-person, bipartisan commission, is down to only acting Chairman\u00a0Caroline Pham, who is also expected to depart from the agency once a permanent leader is appointed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the personnel shortage and Quintenz confirmation stalling, it has been difficult to carry out critical agency business, previous reports claim. \u201cTurmoil continues as the agency\u2019s responsibilities, and the potential market risks, are multiplying,\u201d Bloomberg <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinist.com\/cftc-launches-next-phase-crypto-sprint-initiative\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener \">stated<\/a> in August.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the time, a White House spokesperson denied that there\u2019s chaos at the agency, affirming that \u201cPresident Trump has made it a priority to make America the crypto capital of the world, and in doing so has called for the revitalization of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission to play a larger role in securing this promise.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Quintenz-Winklevoss Clash Stalls CFTC Leadership<\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The CFTC has been in leadership limbo since July, after the US Senate Agriculture Committee delayed the vote on President Trump\u2019s nominee days before the August recess. Reports claimed that the committee stalled Quintenz\u2019s confirmation process following a request from the White House.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The request came after Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinist.com\/nasdaq-set-to-invest-50-million-in-gemini-ipo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener \">Gemini<\/a> co-founders,\u00a0allegedly pressed President Trump to reconsider Quintenz\u2019s nomination, arguing that he wouldn\u2019t \u201cshake up the CFTC enough\u201d and was not aligned with Trump\u2019s agenda.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In August, a group of crypto organizations sent a\u00a0letter to the US President in support of the CFTC chair candidate. They highlighted Quintenz\u2019s extensive experience in the private sector and his knowledge and foresight in digital asset regulation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cMr. Quintenz is uniquely prepared to lead the CFTC in establishing fair, transparent, and trusted markets that will safeguard America\u2019s leadership in digital assets,\u201d the letter affirmed, emphasizing that installing a permanent\u00a0leader is \u201cabsolutely critical\u201d to achieve the Commission\u2019s goals and accomplish Trump\u2019s crypto mission.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last week, Quintenz seemingly confirmed the rumors after sharing private messages with the Winklevoss twins. He suggested the US president \u201cmight have been misled\u201d by the crypto exchange co-founders, which led to the delay.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinist.com\/crypto-feud-cftc-nominee-accuse-tyler-winklevoss\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener \">reported<\/a> by Bitcoinist, Tyler Winklevoss asked Quintenz\u2019s opinion on the crypto exchange\u2019s 13-page complaint letter, which raised multiple concerns and complaints about the CFTC\u2019s Division of Enforcement (DOE) conduct against the crypto exchange over the years.
