According to documents shared by crypto commentator SMQKE on X, Ripple\u2019s integration into the European financial system is through a partnership with SIA, an Italian payments infrastructure provider known for supporting many of the European Central Bank\u2019s systems.<\/p>\n

From SWIFT To The Eurosystem<\/b><\/h2>\n

Ripple has always positioned itself as a challenger to SWIFT<\/a> in global payments with its RippleNet blockchain solution that promises faster, cheaper, and more transparent cross-border transactions. Its technology has been adopted by several<\/a> financial institutions, especially in the Middle East,<\/a> but its quiet introduction into Europe\u2019s financial backbone through the Eurosystem could be Ripple\u2019s most consequential achievement yet.<\/a><\/p>\n

Documents show that Ripple has been formally integrated into the Eurosystem through its strategic partnership with SIA, an Italian payments infrastructure provider that connects hundreds of European institutions via its SIAnet and SIAchain frameworks.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

SIAchain, developed by SIA, is a private blockchain network that connects more than 580 institutions globally using the SIAnet secure communication layer. The platform supports multiple distributed ledger technologies, including Ripple.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Ripple\u2019s presence within SIAchain effectively builds a bridge between Europe\u2019s most important payment systems like TARGET2, TIPS, and the European Collateral Management System, and blockchain technology. This connection allows tokenized assets and central bank money to flow within the same secure environment, including Ripple.<\/p>\n

The DLT-TARGET Initiative<\/b><\/h2>\n

This integration is part of the Eurosystem\u2019s DLT-TARGET initiative. DLT-TARGET is a program that\u2019s designed to link blockchain networks with the European Central Bank\u2019s settlement systems. The pilot phase has already processed more than 200 transactions valued at over \u20ac1.6 billion, showing the system\u2019s readiness for real financial operations. Therefore, SIAchain\u2019s structure effectively allows the use of Ripple\u2019s technology to facilitate interoperability in the European Union without compromising the Eurosystem\u2019s regulatory or operational standards.<\/p>\n

The Bank of Greece has been a major contributor to the Eurosystem\u2019s DLT efforts. Bank of Greece Governor Yannis Stournaras noted on September 29<\/a> that stablecoins, which is now a $250 billion market, cannot be ignored, as they have become a substantial part of the financial ecosystem. As such, they must be integrated into mainstream financial systems under proper oversight.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The institution\u2019s work focuses on connecting tokenized assets <\/a>with central bank money, a step aligned with Ripple\u2019s technological framework and the broader European blockchain strategy. The aim is for central bank money settlements for DLT-based transactions in relevant platforms to be ready by next year.\u00a0<\/p>\n
