Ethereum and most altcoins followed suit, with impressive gains over the past hour or so.<\/p>\n<p>This came after reports that the Friday threats by US President Donald Trump might have been exaggerated, and the tension between Washington and Beijing is de-escalating.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Investors are waking up to some major news from China:<\/p>\n<p>The entire tariff crash on October 10th may have just been one big misunderstanding between Trump and Xi.<\/p>\n<p>The news about China\u2019s rare earth export controls came out on October 9th at ~8:30 am ET, 26 hours BEFORE Trump\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 The Kobeissi Letter (@KobeissiLetter) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KobeissiLetter\/status\/1977370328591438192?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 12, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The Kobeissi Letter suggested that the US may have misinterpreted news about China\u2019s rare earth export controls. After the tariff announcement by Trump on Friday, Beijing said the new controls are not a full export ban and applications that \u201cmeet regulations\u201d will be approved.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cAmid the market\u2019s downturn on Friday, our view was that the 100% tariff announcement by Trump was a bargaining chip.\u00a0After China\u2019s statement last night, we believe the odds of Trump\u2019s 100% tariff on China going into effect are extremely low,\u201d said the analysts.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Thus, they concluded that the biggest liquidation event in the cryptocurrency industry, which saw more than $19 billion <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptopotato.com\/bitcoin-crash-sparks-largest-liquidation-in-crypto-history-19b-gone-and-counting\/\">wrecked<\/a> in less than a day, \u201cappears to have been driven by one big misunderstanding.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>US VP JD Vance continued the de-escalation on Sunday, saying their side appreciated the \u201cfriendship between Trump and Xi\u201d and added that the POTUS hopes the US \u201cwon\u2019t need to use \u2018leverage\u2019 on China.\u201d Vance <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/KobeissiLetter\/status\/1977393953604342070\">noted<\/a> that Trump is \u201cwilling to be a reasonable negotiator with China,\u201d which appears to be the catalyst behind the Sunday jump in the crypto markets.<\/p>\n<p>BTC stood below $112,000 earlier today, prior to the news coming out, but shot up by over two grand to tap $114,500 before it retraced slightly.
