We often think of crypto people as internet schizos with too much time on their hands. \u00a0And maybe these guys are!<\/p>\n

Call them what you want; these so-called eccentrics are shaping an industry that refuses to be ignored \u2013 but who has had the biggest impact this year?<\/p>\n

#3 \u2013 Runner Up: Is Peter Todd Satoshi Nakamoto?<\/h2>\n

In the new HBO documentary \u2018Money Electric,\u2019 Peter Todd, a key Bitcoin developer, is identified as Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0two-hour documentary initially<\/a>\u00a0<\/a>frames Adam Back, the CEO of Blockstream and an early Bitcoin developer, as Satoshi. It\u2019s all a ruse to blame Todd, who the film alleges may have accidentally continued a post as Satoshi Nakamoto on a forum using an alt account.<\/p>\n

Look at that sentence below and tell us it\u2019s not fishy\u2026<\/p>\n

The film suggests that Todd\u2019s ideas flow seamlessly from Satoshi\u2019s original comment (pictured above), echoing the same prose style. Todd also had a perfect alibi and excuse at the tip of his tongue when the interviewer mentioned this strange exchange.<\/p>\n

There are reasons to doubt Todd is Satoshi:<\/p>\n

1)<\/strong> Tech communities often exchange esoteric internet slang.<\/p>\n

2)<\/strong> The film frames Todd\u2019s response as \u201csuper technical\u201d when anyone in the BTC community at the time could understand Satoshi\u2019s point.<\/p>\n

3)<\/strong> Many developers are extraordinarily talented, but their social shortcomings, like how they talk online, make them easy prey for the media.<\/p>\n

Ultimately, this film is only good to show someone who is an absolute beginner to Bitcoin and cryptocurrency.<\/p>\n

It does not prove who Satoshi Nakamoto is beyond a shadow of a doubt.<\/p>\n

#2 \u2013 Runner Up: Crypto Joker Justin Sun<\/h2>\n

Justin Sun, the protege of Alibaba\u2019s Jack Ma, has become a crypto joker.<\/p>\n

In his thesis, \u201cThe Birth of a Decentralized Internet,\u201d Justin Sun explored blockchain\u2019s potential before graduating from Hupan University in 2018. Before graduating, Justin Sun founded the Tron blockchain<\/a> in 2017, a rival to Ethereum.<\/p>\n

Only a few weeks ago, President-elect Donald Trump\u2019s crypto gamble, World Liberty Financial<\/a>, looked dead in the water. The coin tanked despite weeks of MAGA-driven marketing by the president-elect and his sons.<\/p>\n

But then, like clockwork, Justin Sun appeared. On Nov. 25, crypto\u2019s flashiest provocateur pledged $30 million to rescue World Liberty. Sun denies the charges, but the drama only cements his reputation as the wild card of digital currency.<\/p>\n
