The newly announced restrictions will drive up costs for ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) mining equipment \u2013 the very machines that power Bitcoin\u2019s network.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Rare earth elements play a critical role that is often overlooked in crypto mining infrastructure. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Neodymium-iron-boron (NdFeB) magnets, which rely heavily on neodymium and dysprosium, are the critical components in the manufacturing of power generation equipment, cooling systems and broader semiconductor supply chain that produces ASCI mining hardware.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On 9 October 2025, China <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/10\/14\/rare-earth-stocks-rally-amid-renewed-us-china-trade-dispute-.html\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">revealed<\/a> new restrictions on 12 of 17 critical rare earth minerals. The list includes <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">neodymium, dysprosium, praseodymium, holmium, erbium, thulium, europium, and ytterbium. Starting 1 December 2025, Beijing\u2019s aggressive stance will be effective.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>To add fuel to fire, US President Donald Trump threatened China with 100% tariffs\u00a0over Beijing\u2019s strict export controls on critical minerals.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">This could be part of the reasons why China tightened the screws on rare earth even further.<\/p>\n<p>Cryptos need chips which need rare earth.
