Binance founder Changpeng \u201cCZ\u201d Zhao is preparing to sue US Senator Elizabeth Warren for defamation, his legal team says, after she criticized his recent pardon by US President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n

According to reports<\/a>, lawyers for CZ have sent a letter demanding a retraction of a social media post that accused him of pleading guilty to money laundering and of \u201cbuying\u201d a pardon.<\/p>\n

Legal Threat Looms<\/h2>\n

Zhao\u2019s attorney, named in coverage as Teresa Goody Guill\u00e9n of Baker & Hostetler, told media outlets that a public retraction is being sought and that a lawsuit is likely<\/a> if Warren does not correct her post.<\/p>\n

Based on reports, the legal notice argues that Warren\u2019s phrasing wrongly equates Zhao\u2019s guilty plea with a money-laundering conviction and harms his reputation.<\/p>\n

In 2023, Zhao pleaded guilty as part of a settlement tied to failures in Binance\u2019s anti-money-laundering program.<\/p>\n

The company agreed to pay roughly $4.3 billion and Zhao served about four months behind bars, according to court records and reporting.<\/p>\n

Reports quote the CZ camp insisting on a factual distinction: his plea related to lapses in compliance and the company\u2019s failure to maintain adequate controls, not a formal money-laundering conviction.<\/p>\n
