Senator Elizabeth Warren has formally pushed back against a threatened<\/a> defamation claim from Changpeng \u201cCZ\u201d Zhao\u2019s legal team, saying any lawsuit would be without merit.<\/p>\n

The exchange centers on a social media post Warren made on Oct. 23 and the lawyers\u2019 competing accounts of what her post meant and whether it repeats information already in public records.<\/p>\n

Warren\u2019s Lawyer Pushes Back<\/h2>\n

According to a letter<\/a> filed by Warren\u2019s attorney, Ben Stafford, the senator relied on public DOJ materials and court records when she commented about the matter.<\/p>\n

Stafford wrote that a defamation suit would lack legal basis and that public statements from the US Department of Justice were the source for key factual points.<\/p>\n

Reports have disclosed that Stafford\u2019s response stressed First Amendment protections for commentary about public figures.<\/p>\n

CZ\u2019s Legal Demand And The Timeline<\/p>\n

CZ\u2019s legal demand was sent by Teresa Goody Guill\u00e9n, who is identified in coverage as counsel for Zhao, co-founder and former CEO of Binance.<\/p>\n
