Google&#8217;s new\u00a0<em>Willow\u00a0<\/em>processor could change all that. It reportedly\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41586-025-09526-6\" rel=\"nofollow\">slashes qubit error rates<\/a>\u00a0and extends coherence times, the micro-moments when quantum states can hold still and make useful calculations.<\/p>\n<p>For the first time, Google (NASDAQ:<a class=\"ticker\" href=\"https:\/\/www.benzinga.com\/quote\/GOOG\">GOOG<\/a>) (NASDAQ:<a class=\"ticker\" href=\"https:\/\/www.benzinga.com\/quote\/GOOGL\">GOOGL<\/a>) says its system can run hundreds of logical qubits with enough error correction to execute a small-scale version of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.geeksforgeeks.org\/dsa\/shors-factorization-algorithm\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">Shor&#8217;s algorithm<\/a>, the code capable of cracking RSA encryption. That&#8217;s the nightmare scenario cybersecurity experts have warned about for decades.<\/p>\n<p>If Shor&#8217;s algorithm ever scales fully, it won&#8217;t just break passwords.
