President Donald Trump just promised a 2k stimulus check for everyone, and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessenet looks like he\u2019s going to cry.<\/p>\n

His job is to try and talk the President out of just handing out money to people in an attempt to make himself popular. That $2000 stimulus <\/a>Trump tweeted about? That tweet was the first time Bessent heard about it.<\/p>\n

I can\u2019t imagine the hell he has to deal with.<\/p>\n

Trump announced Sunday that \u201cmost Americans\u201d will receive at least $2,000 from his unpopular tariff revenues his administration has collected.<\/p>\n

The Truth Social announcement followed a tense Supreme Court hearing over Trump\u2019s use of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act<\/a> to impose tariffs unilaterally. Several justices questioned the scope of his authority, casting doubt on whether the financial tool behind his latest promise can withstand constitutional scrutiny.<\/p>\n

So is Trump serious? Does he not understand inflation? Everything is so expensive already. WTF is he thinking?<\/p>\n

I am fairly certain that buying votes and diluting the dollar isn\u2019t going to improve the economy. Just like previous times.<\/p>\n

But I digress!\u00a0Trump\u2019s Truth Social post was typical of his brash confidence:<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople that are against Tariffs are FOOLS! We are now the Richest, Most Respected Country In the World,\u201d he wrote. \u201c[We will pay] a dividend of at least $2,000 a person (not including high-income people!).\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The president previously hinted on One America News Network that the payment would resemble a \u201cdividend to the people of America,\u201d<\/strong> describing it as both a reward and a tool for debt reduction<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Bessent, appearing on ABC\u2019s This Week, tried to soften expectations, saying the funds might come through \u201ctax decreases\u201d such as no tax on tips or overtime rather than direct checks. LOL.<\/p>\n

They\u2019re already capitulating.<\/p>\n

According to Treasury data, tariffs have generated roughly $195 Bn this year. It\u2019s an impressive sum, but nowhere near enough to fund a nationwide dividend. Economists at the Tax Foundation estimate that if every adult earning under $100,000 qualified, the cost would hit $300 Bn; if children were included, that figure climbs past $500 Bn.<\/p>\n

Even more concerning, the Yale Budget Lab reports the effective tariff rate has reached 18%, the highest since 1934, with corporations passing much of that cost to consumers.<\/p>\n

As John Arnold of Arnold Ventures noted, \u201cthe math gets worse accounting for the full budgetary impact of tariffs.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
