Stretch that to 50 years at 6.71%, and the payment drops to $2,318, which is a savings of just $160 per month, or about 6.5%. SPOILER ALERT: That\u2019s not life-changing. But over the life of the loan, the borrower pays nearly $500,000 more in interest.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a class=\"general-link\" href=\"https:\/\/fred.stlouisfed.org\/categories\/32261\" according to an AP analysis.
