{"id":59209,"date":"2025-11-19T07:01:37","date_gmt":"2025-11-19T07:01:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=59209"},"modified":"2025-11-19T07:01:37","modified_gmt":"2025-11-19T07:01:37","slug":"senators-call-for-probe-into-wlfi-over-alleged-token-sales-linked-to-russia-north-korea","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=59209","title":{"rendered":"Senators Call For Probe Into WLFI Over Alleged Token Sales Linked To Russia, North Korea"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Two US senators have sent a new letter demanding that the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Treasury Department investigate Donald Trump-backed World Liberty Financial (WLFI) over token sales allegedly linked to illicit actors.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Senators Question WLFI\u2019s Token Sale<\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On Tuesday, CNBC News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/11\/18\/senator-probe-warren-trump-crypto-world-liberty-financial-usd1-wlfi-ties-north-korea-russia-iran.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">reported<\/a> that Democratic Senators Elizabeth Warren and Jack Reed expressed concerns about potential national security risks related to one of the Trump family\u2019s crypto ventures, World Liberty Financial.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a letter seen by the news media outlet, the senators requested that Attorney General Pam Bondi and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent investigate claims that the Trump-backed company had allegedly sold tokens to sanctioned entities or individuals with ties to illicit actors in Russia and North Korea.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Warren and Reed reportedly argued that WLFI \u201clacks adequate safeguards to prevent bad actors from moving funds or gaining influence over its governance,\u201d raising concerns over a potential conflict of interest.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to CNBC, the letter cited a recent report from the non-profit corporate watchdog Accountable.US, which affirmed that World Liberty Financial <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinist.com\/trump-familys-crypto-fortune-soars-to-1b\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener \">sold<\/a> its WLFI token to \u201cvarious highly suspicious entities,\u201d including traders with ties to North Korea\u2019s Lazarus Group, or using Russia\u2019s A7A5 ruble-backed stablecoin, and Iran\u2019s largest crypto exchange, Nobitex.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To the senators, the reported token sales to individuals with \u201copen and obvious connections to enemies of the U.S.\u201d indicate \u201can absence of robust sanctions and anti-money laundering controls.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additionally, they consider that the company \u201crisks supercharging illicit finance activity\u201d and raises national security risks by giving bad actors \u201ca seat at the table\u201d to influence the firm\u2019s governance.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The letter added that the Trump family\u2019s ties with the crypto venture \u201ccreate a financial conflict of interest for Trump Administration officials that report to the President: prioritizing token sales will directly enrich the Trump family \u2014 while compliance activities may interfere with this wealth creation.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Conflict Of Interest Claims Mount<\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A spokesperson for World Liberty Financial rejected any <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinist.com\/senate-democrats-trumps-special-envoy-crypto\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener \">misconduct<\/a>, stating, \u201cThere is no conflict of interest between World Liberty Financial, a private crypto company with zero political power, and the U.S. government.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moreover, the representative told CNBC that \u201cWorld Liberty Financial conducted rigorous AML\/KYC checks on every pre-sale purchaser of the $WLFI governance token \u2014 the highest standard in the industry \u2014 and turned down millions of dollars from potential purchasers who failed the tests.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s worth noting that the Democratic lawmakers have pressed multiple government officials, including the US Special Envoy for peace missions, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)\u2019s former acting chairman, and the head of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), about Trump\u2019s crypto ventures and potential conflicts of interest.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most recently, they have questioned the recently granted pardon to Binance\u2019s co-founder and former CEO, Changpeng \u201cCZ\u201d Zhao.
