Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson used a Thanksgiving livestream on November 27 to call for a reset of relations between the network\u2019s core institutions and to frame 2026 as a decisive year for the ecosystem.<\/p>\n

He acknowledged a bruising year marked by a contentious \u201csocial fork\u201d and, more recently, a soft fork and long-chain reorganization. \u201cEveryone has grievances and we all have sins as well, myself included,\u201d he said<\/a>. \u201cFor my part in all these things, I am sorry.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cardano Eyes 2026 Reset With Hoskinson\u2019s Call For Cohesion<\/h2>\n

Hoskinson admitted that his own \u201crigid and principled\u201d style and public anger over disagreements have sometimes made things worse, and warned that \u201cin disunity and division this ecosystem cannot succeed regardless of philosophical differences.\u201d He pledged to stop relitigating past disputes<\/a> with the Cardano Foundation and focus instead on \u201cthe new governance structure moving forward.\u201d<\/p>\n

He tied that reset to a joint governance push by five institutions: IOG, the Cardano Foundation, EMURGO, Intersect and the Midnight Foundation. He credited \u201cPhilip [Pon] from EMURGO and Fahmi [Syed] from the Midnight Foundation and Jack [Briggs] from Intersect\u201d for convening talks on \u201chow all five entities [\u2026] can work better together for the greater good of the Cardano ecosystem,\u201d and said the community should expect coordinated proposals, including a \u201ccritical integrations\u201d budget for missing core infrastructure ahead of 2026.<\/p>\n

Hoskinson also rejected characterizations of this week\u2019s soft fork<\/a> as a systemic failure, calling it \u201ca demonstration of the strengths of Cardano as a whole.\u201d Its Nakamoto-style proof-of-stake and \u201cremarkable protocol engineering,\u201d he argued, allowed the network to \u201corganically recover without significant disruption or loss,\u201d with genesis and infrastructure preserved.<\/p>\n

Drawing an analogy to Bitcoin\u2019s history of orphaned blocks, he argued that temporary chain splits are \u201ca feature, not a bug,\u201d because they create \u201cinternal resilience\u201d that lets the network \u201crecover to the longest chain over time.\u201d The incident, he said, reminded him that \u201cno matter how big the fork, there is a way for two chains to become one.\u201d<\/p>\n

Looking forward, Hoskinson cast 2026 as the key execution window for Cardano\u2019s roadmap. He highlighted Hydra\u2019s emerging DeFi use cases, \u201camazing innovations like Starstream,\u201d the commercialization of the Midnight ecosystem and the opening of \u201ccompletely new markets\u201d through Bitcoin DeFi.<\/a><\/p>\n

Realizing that vision, he said, requires a coordinated effort from \u201cthe young new ones like the Midnight Foundation,\u201d groups \u201cwith a lot of collaboration but dissonance like Intersect,\u201d infrastructure players such as Pragma and \u201cthe old guard\u201d at IOG and the Cardano Foundation, alongside the wider community.<\/p>\n

The speech also drew a sharper ideological line between what he described as two philosophies that will shape crypto over the next five years. One, in his telling, seeks to \u201crebuild Wall Street, make it a little faster, better, and cheaper\u201d while preserving the same control structures and middlemen. The other, rooted in the cypherpunk tradition and Satoshi Nakamoto<\/a>\u2019s design, insists that \u201cno entity should be so powerful that they get to decide your freedom of association, commerce and expression.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hoskinson positioned Cardano, Midnight and Bitcoin within the latter camp. \u201cWe\u2019re the good guys,\u201d he said. \u201cEvery day we wake up and we fight for every person to have a seat at the table [\u2026] they have a right to be there by the fact that they are human.\u201d If the ecosystem can translate that ethos into unified governance and shared infrastructure, he argued, \u201cthis time next year, we will be 10 times stronger than we are today.\u201d<\/p>\n

Notably, the livestream came after the first joint governance proposal from Intersect, IOG, Emurgo, Cardano Foundation and the Midnight Foundation. Intersect wrote via X: \u201cThe Critical Integrations Budget \u2013 now on-chain \u2013 reflects several weeks of collaboration among the core entities, with last week\u2019s mainnet incident highlighting the strength of that coordination. The Budget Info Action is now available for DReps and the six Constitutional Committee members to consider and vote on.\u201d<\/p>\n
