Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson has hailed the launch of Midnight and its native token NIGHT as the strongest in the network\u2019s history, arguing that it proves Cardano can now host and distribute multi-billion-dollar assets at scale.<\/p>\n

NIGHT Token Plunges After Midnight Launch<\/h2>\n

In his December 10 livestream <\/a>\u201cMidnight Launch AAR,\u201d Hoskinson opened with the volatile price action that dominated social media. NIGHT initially spiked to what he called an \u201cinsane\u201d level: \u201cIt launched at almost a $150, which is just insane [\u2026] it just went way, way, way up.\u201d Once trading opened on Binance Alpha, the move reversed violently. \u201cAs soon as it got on Binance Alpha \u2013 oh god, why, why, oh why \u2013 all the way down to two cents. They dumped on us. That\u2019s what they do. That\u2019s what the DGENs over in that market do.\u201d<\/p>\n

He framed this as typical exchange-distribution dynamics, not a structural failure: recipients with no real connection to the ecosystem \u201cregardless of the price, they just dump the token. They probably didn\u2019t even know what NIGHT was.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Hoskinson, such launches usually endure 48\u201372 hours of \u201chigh volatility\u201d before a stable range emerges. He reiterated that he had expected NIGHT to trade in a \u201c5 cents to 15 cents\u201d band and said it was sitting around 6\u20136.5 cents with a fully diluted valuation of roughly $1.5 billion and around $150 million in trading volume. For a brand-new Cardano-native asset in current conditions, he called that \u201ca really solid launch.\u201d<\/p>\n

What made the debut historically significant in his view was the combination of tier-one listings and on-chain metrics. \u201cThis is the first time in history that Cardano right out the gate can launch a $1.5 billion product, be listed on Binance Alpha and Kraken and OKX and everybody else at the start,\u201d he said, stressing that much of the required infrastructure \u201cwasn\u2019t there\u201d and had to be built during the run-up.<\/p>\n

Cardano\u2019s Best Launch Ever<\/h2>\n

On Cardano itself, he highlighted that Midnight immediately became the dominant token by trading activity. Citing TapTools, he said NIGHT was \u201csitting [at] an overwhelming level of volume, and it\u2019s actually greater than the volume of every other Cardano native token combined,\u201d adding that its FDV is \u201cworth more than all the other CNTs combined as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

For the first time, he argued, DEXs such as Minswap and SundaeSwap carried a \u201cmeaningful percentage of trading volume [\u2026] with respect to large exchanges,\u201d helping \u201cprime the pump on Cardano DEXes\u201d and pull more stablecoins into the ecosystem.<\/p>\n

Distribution was another focal point. Hoskinson praised the Glacier Drop<\/a> mechanism and its gradual \u201cthawing,\u201d saying it creates \u201ca nice steady emission and a nice steady flow for the system as opposed to a jagged thing where the insiders all dump.\u201d<\/p>\n

He contrasted Midnight\u2019s retail-heavy, exchange-plus-airdrop distribution with VC-led launches elsewhere: \u201cThis is the first time since Bitcoin that a launch has been done the way that Midnight did it. It was complete retail, completely fair, and none of those damn VCs got their grubby hands on it. Instead, it went right to you, the people.\u201d<\/p>\n

He tied that to a broader \u201creturn to first principles,\u201d arguing that 2026 should reward projects with fair launches and fixed-supply, deflationary monetary policies: \u201cThere\u2019s a fixed supply NIGHT, by the way [\u2026] it\u2019s going to be a good year for everybody who\u2019s betting on you, the consumer, and not betting on the banks.\u201d<\/p>\n

Looking forward, Hoskinson positioned Midnight as Cardano\u2019s first \u201cpartner chain\u201d<\/a> and the \u201ctip of the spear\u201d for a hybrid DApp model spanning multiple ecosystems: \u201cYou talk about Midnight Cardano, Midnight Ethereum, Midnight Solana, Midnight Avalanche, Midnight Binance.\u201d He said that after the first four phases of the roadmap, \u201cevery two months a new ecosystem gets activated,\u201d with recurring feature drops \u201cevery six to eight weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also cast Midnight as a competitive wedge for Cardano DApps. With tier-one integrations and privacy-preserving capabilities<\/a>, he argued, \u201cwe have privacy before [Ethereum and Solana] do,\u201d giving Cardano\u2013Midnight hybrid apps a differentiator that can help grow TVL, MAU and transaction volume.<\/p>\n

Hoskinson insisted that the launch pressure-tested and validated the base protocol: \u201cCardano network handled it. The exchanges handled it. And Midnight is here to stay.\u201d The ambition from here is explicit. \u201cWe\u2019re going to march Midnight up as an ecosystem to that $10 billion mark. That\u2019s the goal. Let\u2019s keep going. Let\u2019s get her done,\u201d he said, adding that \u201cthese are the best numbers we\u2019ve ever seen in the history of Cardano\u201d \u2013 and, in his view, only the beginning.<\/p>\n
