XRP<\/strong> (CRYPTO: <\/a>XRP<\/a>) holders that bet on $10 in 2025 are down 8% since the start of the year, refuting the wide-spread belief at the start of 2025 that 2025 would be a positive year for altcoins<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Reason #1: SEC Lawsuit Dragged Till August<\/h3>\n

The SEC vs. Ripple lawsuit didn\u2019t conclude<\/a> until Aug. 22 when the court clerk certified that both parties dropped their appeals.<\/p>\n

The delay was not random. Former SEC Chair Gary Gensler<\/strong> filed a last-minute appeal<\/a> just five days before Donald Trump<\/strong> fired him from office.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It was similar to what happened in 2020, when Jay Clayton<\/strong> filed the original lawsuit on his final day as SEC chair.<\/p>\n

Because of that appeal, the case stayed alive for months longer than expected.\u00a0<\/p>\n

As long as the lawsuit was still open, XRP could not break out.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Big institutions stayed away, ETF issuers could not move forward, and every rally stalled.<\/p>\n

Reason #2: ETFs Didn\u2019t Launch Till November<\/h3>\n

XRP spot ETFs didn\u2019t go live until November, delayed by both the lawsuit and the government shutdown<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Six of seven ETF issuers updated their S-1 filings on August 22\u2014the day the case officially ended\u2014to confirm the lawsuit was resolved.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Then the government shutdown forced another delay.<\/p>\n
