Yesterday, they unveiled a groundbreaking proposal to make the network more scalable, narrowing its gap to Ethereum.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">For example, looking at the <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/solana-foundation\/solana-improvement-documents\/blob\/main\/proposals\/0215-accounts-lattice-hash.md\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">proposal<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> on GitHub, developers seek to introduce a new hashing system that will address scalability challenges without compromising security. For the neutrals, this is a crucial step that, once implemented, could reshape the broader blockchain landscape. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Solana Developers Propose A New Hashing System<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Combining the documents, Solana developers propose a new hashing system called SIMD-215 to address one of Solana\u2019s pressing challenges: the<\/span> <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cstate growth problem.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Developers observe that verifying and updating the \u201cstate of user accounts\u201d requires even more computing resources as blockchain platforms onboard more users. This challenge presents a barrier to mainstream adoption that needs to be urgently addressed. If resolved and SIMD-215 is implemented, it would help Solana scale to \u201cbillions accounts and compute a \u201chash of all accounts\u201d in practical time and space.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">In this ambitious path, SIMD-215 introduces what is described as a \u201clattice-based homomorphic hashing function.\u201d This solution will change how Solana tracks and verifies all connected user accounts by only processing changed accounts. This means that Solana won\u2019t have to allocate resources to recalculate the state of every account. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Subsequently, this implementation will save resources by reducing computing costs, all while ensuring Solana is secure from the base level. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Interestingly, this proposal comes nearly seven months after Anatoly Yakovenko, the co-founder, highlighted the \u201cstate growth problem\u201d in a tweet.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">state is gonna grow, what are we gonna do? <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s.w.org\/images\/core\/emoji\/15.0.3\/72x72\/1f631.png\" alt=\"\ud83d\ude31\" class=\"wp-smiley\" style=\"height: 1em; max-height: 1em;\"><\/p>\n<p>The problem comes down to this simple thing, new account creation has to actually create new accounts. For this reason, developers will likely gradually implement the hashing system, allowing all nodes to prepare before full activation. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> Firedancer In Progress, Solana Attracts More Developers<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">It should be noted that this is not the only thing Solana developers are working on. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Firedancer, a client <a class=\"general-link\" title=\"Solana Launches Firedancer\u2019s Bug Bounty Program: Pick A Major Flaw And Receive $1 Million\" href=\"https:\/\/99bitcoins.com\/news\/solana-launches-firedancers-bug-bounty-program-pick-a-major-flaw-and-receive-1-million\/\" rel=\"\">developed<\/a> from the ground up by Jump Crypto, is being tested and should be implemented in the first half of 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Spotlight: Firedancer v0 Architecture\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IaElggvrYsI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Once it goes live, the validator client will make Solana more robust, reducing events of blackouts. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Meanwhile, they recently introduced the\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"general-link\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/deanmlittle\/solana-winternitz-vault\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Solana Winternitz Vault<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. The vault resists quantum computing threats and safeguards user funds once this technology becomes widespread. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">As SOL rises in prominence, building and improving the base layer, the platform continues to pique developer interest. An Electric Capital report in early December <\/span><a class=\"general-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.developerreport.com\/developer-report?s=new-developers-key-takeaways\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">reveals<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> that Solana attracted over 7,600 new developers in 2024, flipping Ethereum (which had 6,400) for the first time in eight years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-189297 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/99bitcoins.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Screenshot-4-1.png\" alt=\"Solana is building. With surging on-chain transactions, Solana also generated more fees than Ethereum for the first time in late October 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Despite the stiff competition, Ethereum is still the largest platform, thanks to its first-mover advantage.
