Even SEC Chair Paul Atkins said that<span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u201cclear legislation and well-defined rules\u201d deliver market certainty.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">To start with, Kazakhstan, the country that has promised to build a \u201ccrypto-city,\u201d has cracked down on over 1100 unlicensed cryptocurrency platforms in 2025. The Kazakh regulator, Agency for Financial Monitoring (AFM), has shut down illegal crypto exchanges and frozen assets in order to ensure compliance. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">According to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.akorda.kz\/ru\/kasym-zhomart-tokaev-prinyal-predsedatelya-agentstva-po-finansovomu-monitoringu-zhanata-elimanova-120229\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">statement issued<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> on 12 January 2025, 1135 criminal cases were investigated, 141.5 billion tenge had been reimbursed to victims. Regulators have shut down 1500 investment sites.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Italy\u2019s top securities regulator has issued a warning to \u201cfinfluencers\u201d promoting crypto. The Italian authority explicitly said that the EU investment rules apply fully to the social media activity of financial influencers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On 12 January 2026, Italy\u2019s Commissione Nazionale per le Societ\u00e0 e la Borsa (CONSOB) <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.consob.it\/web\/area-pubblica\/dettaglio-news\/-\/asset_publisher\/qjVSo44Lk1fI\/content\/comunicato-stampa-del-12-gennaio-2026\/10194\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">published <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">a guidance from the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA). \u201cPromoting a financial product or service on social media is not like promoting shoes or watches, explains the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.consob.it\/documents\/d\/asset-library-1912910\/esma-consob-finfluencers_factsheet_20260108\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">factsheet published on the ESMA and Consob websites<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. The guidance said, \u201cTelling people what to invest in, or what to avoid, can be considered a form of investment advice that requires authorization from the competent national authority.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">From now on, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cthis is not investment advice\u201d will not suffice.
