Senator Elizabeth Warren has formally pressed Beast Industries and YouTube star Jimmy Donaldson\u2014known as MrBeast\u2014for detailed information about the company\u2019s recent acquisition of Step, a fintech app that offers banking services to teenagers and previously permitted minors to trade crypto.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In a March 23 letter sent to Beast Industries CEO Jeff Housenbold and Donaldson, Warren warned that any expansion of financial services to young users, especially into decentralized finance (DeFi) or digital assets, must be handled with exceptional care and full compliance with legal protections.<\/p>\n

Warren Demands Explanations<\/h2>\n

Warren\u2019s letter <\/a>frames her request as a response to Step\u2019s product history and Beast Industries\u2019 public statements of interest in crypto and decentralized finance.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Warren raised particular alarm over Step\u2019s prior advertising and product plans related to cryptocurrencies. She cited a 2022 Instagram post in which Step reportedly told \u201cteens under 18\u201d they would be able to access \u201c50+ tokens\u201d and buy NFTs\u2014suggesting the company intended to offer a wide array of crypto assets.<\/p>\n

The Senator contrasted that promotional language with later Step disclosures that characterized many tokens beyond Bitcoin <\/a>(BTC) as \u201cextremely risky, extremely volatile\u201d and warned users that it is \u201ceasy to get wrecked\u201d investing in them.<\/p>\n

Warren emphasized that despite those internal warnings, early outreach to minors appears to have marketed speculative crypto products to a vulnerable audience.<\/p>\n

The senator\u2019s inquiry also notes recent corporate developments tied to Beast Industries\u2019 pivot into fintech. In January 2026, Beast Industries announced a $200 million investment from BitMine Immersion Technologies<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The acquisition of Step in February 2026 was the firm\u2019s first major move following that investment, according to Warren\u2019s correspondence. The timing, she argues, merits scrutiny given BitMine\u2019s role and the potential for deeper ties between Beast Industries and crypto infrastructure providers.<\/p>\n

Senator Questions MrBeast Over Past Crypto Claims<\/h2>\n

Warren further highlighted allegations surrounding MrBeast himself. Her letter references a 2024 report that accused Donaldson of engaging in insider trading<\/a>, allegedly misleading investors, and promoting tokens before selling them.<\/p>\n

The senator noted that Donaldson has denied wrongdoing and stated that third parties manage his crypto investments, but she nevertheless referenced the seriousness of the past allegations in requesting clarity about Beast Industries\u2019 plans for Step.<\/p>\n

Expressing concern about Step\u2019s previous targeting of alleged volatile investments<\/a> to a youthful audience, Warren underlined the company\u2019s appeal to children and teenagers and the \u201cloyal\u201d nature of MrBeast\u2019s followers.\u00a0<\/p>\n

She said these factors, together with the company\u2019s product history and the allegations concerning Donaldson\u2019s crypto dealings, justify a thorough accounting of how Beast Industries will operate Step going forward and what safeguards it will adopt to protect young customers.<\/p>\n
