They steered the blockchain and its dedicated team of developers through rough patches. Even though it remains the most active <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">smart<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> contract platform by total value locked (TVL) and developer activity, the community wants more. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Right now, the attention is<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> on the EF and the discomfort it is causing ETH holders, thanks to its constant selling to cover operational costs.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The Ethereum Foundation: A Cause For Frustration?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">To understand where the noise is coming from, we must know the purpose of the EF<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.<\/span> The team created the EF from launch<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, structuring it as a non-profit organization.<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> Its sole purpose was to support the broader Ethereum ecosystem and promote the network as the best <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">there is<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">However, to do this, the foundation needed funds. During the ICO, they <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">were allocated<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> 3 million ETH, a reserve to ensure <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">all their work was done<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> smoothly. According to Staking Rewards, staking ETH yields roughly 3%. However, as the co-founder stated, there were regulatory challenges regarding whether they should sell. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Generally, by staking, EF would be aligning with the long-term goals of making Ethereum secure while also not spooking other holders to sell. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Then again, if they choose to sell, the community <\/span><a class=\"general-link\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/spotonchain\/status\/1881302552240861518\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">thinks<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> the best way to do so will be by selling via the over-the-counter (OTC), not via exchanges like Kraken, Gemini, or <a class=\"general-link\" title=\"Judge Throws The Brakes on Coinbase SEC Case Ahead of Trump Inauguration\" href=\"https:\/\/99bitcoins.com\/news\/judge-throws-the-brakes-on-coinbase-sec-case-ahead-of-trump-inauguration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Coinbase<\/a> as they usually do. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Using an OTC agent would minimize public scrutiny and, most importantly, improve the foundation\u2019s perception of its financial prudence. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Aave CEO Proposal Aims To Streamline Foundation Operations<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>How EF should proceed has mostly been the suggestion of the community and, in some instances, Buterin.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">In a post yesterday, Stani Kulechov, the CEO of Aave\u2013a DeFi protocol whose tech is relied on by Donald Trump\u2019s World Liberty Financial, <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">chimed in, <\/span><a class=\"general-link\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/StaniKulechov\/status\/1881312457504727108\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">proposing<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> more radical overhaul of the foundation\u2019s financial strategy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Some of his suggestions include reducing staff and, crucially, streamlining operations. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">At the same time, the Aave CEO thinks diversifying the foundation\u2019s treasury would generate more yield. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">If they invest in various DeFi and non-DeFi projects, they would receive more yield and funding for <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">their operations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">As practical as this may be, the foundation would potentially be in a conflict-of-interest situation, yet it is supposed to be neutral, entirely tasked with supporting the app builder ecosystem, not specific projects.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Additionally, the CEO thinks the best way to fund the foundation is by suggesting and implementing a sustainable revenue model. Here, funding will be from transaction fees.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Only time will tell which path the foundation and Ethereum will take.
