The Justice Department charged a software engineer at\u00a0Alphabet Inc. <\/strong>(NASDAQ:<\/a>GOOG<\/a>) (NASDAQ:<\/a>GOOGL<\/a>)-owned Google<\/strong> on Wednesday\u00a0with allegedly profiting over $1 million on Polymarket <\/strong>by misusing confidential information. <\/p>\n

Insider Trading In Google?<\/h2>\n

Michele Spagnuolo<\/strong>, an Italian citizen residing in Switzerland, was charged with commodities fraud, wire fraud, and money laundering, according to a DOJ press release.<\/p>\n

The complaint stated that Spagnuolo had access to Google\u2019s internal software tool, which provided him with confidential company information.<\/p>\n

He created an account on Polymarket, a Polygon <\/strong>(CRYPTO: <\/a>POL<\/a>)-based prediction market, with a pseudonym “AlphaRaccoon,\u201d and placed several bets related to Google\u2019s internal information. When the information was finally made public, he profited roughly $1.2 million on all his wagers.<\/p>\n
