{"id":97587,"date":"2026-06-01T20:18:05","date_gmt":"2026-06-01T20:18:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=97587"},"modified":"2026-06-01T20:18:05","modified_gmt":"2026-06-01T20:18:05","slug":"japans-ldp-calls-for-crypto-etf-framework-yen-stablecoin-push-in-new-proposal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dogewisperer.com\/?p=97587","title":{"rendered":"Japan\u2019s LDP Calls For Crypto ETF Framework, Yen Stablecoin Push In New Proposal"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Japan\u2019s ruling party has called for the creation of the long-awaited rules for crypto exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and promotion of yen-denominated stablecoins in the region in a new proposal to the government.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Japan\u2019s Ruling Party Pushes For Crypto ETF Rules<\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On Monday, Japan\u2019s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) asked the government to develop a legal framework to allow crypto-based ETFs in the country, seeking to strengthen the local digital assets sector, Reuters <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/legal\/government\/japan-must-promote-yen-stablecoins-asia-ruling-party-panel-says-2026-06-01\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a proposal \u200cto the government, the ruling party affirmed that \u201cCrypto-ETFs would provide investors with easy-to-understand ways of investment,\u201d urging the government to \u201cposition the product as an official means of \u200binvestment in the financial market.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the report, LDP\u2019s panel on the promotion of \u200bblockchain technology submitted its proposal to Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama, \u2060who oversees the Financial Services Agency (FSA).<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s worth noting that Japanese authorities have been cautious about crypto-based investment products over the past few years, with the main financial regulator repeatedly expressing its reservations about the funds.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Earlier this year, reports <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinist.com\/japan-to-list-first-spot-crypto-etf-by-2028-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener \">indicated<\/a> that the FSA plans to amend the Investment Trust Act\u2019s enforcement order to add cryptocurrencies to the list of specified assets for ETFs, with stronger safeguards to protect investors.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reportedly, the country will likely approve and list its first wave of crypto ETFs in the next two years, with some industry leaders affirming that the rollout could come as early as next year if the law\u2019s revision allows it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In an April <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-04-30\/japan-exchange-sees-crypto-etf-listings-as-soon-as-next-year\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">interview<\/a>, Hiromi Yamaji, CEO of Japan Exchange Group (JPX), the parent company of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, stated that asset management firms are interested in creating crypto investment products.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe\u2019re ready to work on it once legislation and tax treatment are made clear,\u201d JPX CEO told Bloomberg, but noted that listings could come in 2028, if progress on the law\u2019s amendments stalls.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0Lawmakers Eye Yen-Stablecoin Boost In Asia<\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After Monday\u2019s meeting with Katayama, Junichi Kanda, a lawmaker on the panel, told reporters that the ruling party had also pushed the government to boost the use of yen stablecoins in the region.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe urged the government to take steps to promote \u200byen stablecoins for settlement in Asia in the future,\u201d he said, adding that Japan could promote yen stablecoins and its efforts on blockchain innovation next year, when the country hosts the Asian Development Bank\u2019s annual meeting.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Japan\u2019s legal framework for stablecoins was established through the 2022 amendment to the Payment Services Act. Under these rules, only licensed money transfer companies, trust companies, and banks are allowed to issue yen-denominated tokens.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last year, Tokyo fintech company JPYC launched the first yen-pegged stablecoin, backed by Japanese yen reserves, including bank deposits and government debt.
