In an interview with Politico, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong pushed back on JPMorgan Chase chief Jamie Dimon\u2019s criticism of the CLARITY Act. At the same time, the bank\u2019s analysts said that the odds of the bill clearing Congress and reaching President Trump\u2019s desk this year are becoming increasingly slim.<\/p>\n

CLARITY Act Would Be \u2018Good For The Banks\u2019<\/h2>\n

Armstrong told <\/a>Politico that it was \u201ckind of sad\u201d to hear Dimon call him \u201cfull of shit.\u201d He said he has \u201ca lot of respect for Jamie Dimon,\u201d adding that while they disagree on the crypto bill, he still respects the banker personally.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Coinbase CEO said he believes the regulatory framework in the CLARITY Act would ultimately be beneficial for traditional banks, and he was surprised by Dimon\u2019s tone.\u00a0He suggested that the level of intensity in public commentary can blur nuance, saying, \u201cWhen people communicate through the media, nuance gets lost.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Armstrong further argued that the bill could be helpful beyond Wall Street\u2014stating that it would be \u201cgreat for crypto companies as well.\u201d In his view, the goal should be to move past rigid positions and focus on getting the legislation \u201cover the finish line.\u201d<\/p>\n

The exchange comes after NewsBTC reported <\/a>on Dimon\u2019s comments, in which he said banks \u201cwill not accept\u201d the CLARITY Act in its current form.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Dimon also suggested that efforts by crypto supporters were unlikely to build a broad consensus with traditional financial institutions, warning that there would be continued resistance rather than convergence.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He said the act would be fought and added that no one would \u201cbow down\u201d to either Armstrong or crypto-related figures<\/a>, arguing that someone associated with the lobbying push was spending \u201chundreds of millions of dollars in Washington\u201d on the legislation.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Midterms Reduce Chances This Year<\/h2>\n

In the Politico interview, Armstrong said he was \u201ca little perplexed by that,\u201d and reiterated that he believes the CLARITY Act would help the banking sector<\/a> and create clearer rules for the crypto industry.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Rather than treating the debate as a matter of winning or losing, Armstrong framed it as a test of whether lawmakers can complete the process and finalize the bill.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, when JPMorgan analysts consider the timing of the bill, they conclude that constraints are tightening rather than easing. They argue <\/a>that it is becoming increasingly difficult to pass and fully approve the crypto bill in time this year, especially with the midterm elections approaching.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The analysts pointed to several factors that could slow progress, including the debate over stablecoin yields and the remaining legislative hurdles, such as the ethics provision related to President Trump\u2019s links to the industry.\u00a0<\/p>\n
